Experiencing a Photo Shoot

A few weeks ago a photographer posted a notice on one of the local TG yahoo groups. The notice said he was looking for models for a national magazine shoot and that "The dress will be lingerie and implied nude."  As you might imagine, if you have ever read correspondence that is posted on tg group sites,  there was quite a bit of feedback, mostly negative. Still, the idea of a professional photographer doing a shoot was intriguing to me.

So, given the information that was posted on the group and with a little internet searching, it wasn't hard to check out the photographer's credentials.   Yes, Ben Lemons actually has a studio and has been in the business for many years. Ben has  two or more web sites, one for St Louis Models and a site for his business - Ben Lemons Photography. Next step was a brief email stating my interest in a photo shoot, but also stating I wasn't interested in implied nude photos. Actually I wouldn't mind swim suit or similar, but didn't state that. Is a swimsuit getting close to implied nude?  I guess it depends on the suit. Sharon DeWitt Photo Shoot

Ben sent a return email with his telephone number--that was nice even though I'd already found it in my search--and a warm invite to do a shoot. We arranged for a 10 a.m. shoot two days later.   I wasn't thinking very clearly when we decided on that time. I'm not a morning person; his studio is almost an hour from where I live. One hour to wake up, one plus hours to get ready and one hour to drive. Ouch!  6:30 wake up call.

With the exception of some uncooperative eyelashes, all went well. I even made it 15 minutes early. Ben has a nice size studio, maybe a little messy. I can say that because his wife said that to me. Yes, she works there part of the time. He has a nice size setup, with a front lobby area, a small office, storage area, a changing room, and a large studio area. I put my clothing bag in the changing room and was ready to start.

I was a bit nervous. Well, more than a bit.  I'm not sure why. Ben has a warm personality and tried to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. Unfortunately, I felt as if I were going to take a test or give a speech. It wasn't till my second or third clothing change that I started feeling comfortable. Ben took almost 300 photos in a very short time. Even though I was pretty uptight at first, there were plenty high-quality photos to choose from.

We talked about doing another shoot in the future. I know after looking at the photos there are some things I would do differently, and I think Ben had a few ideas also. After the shoot, Ben gave me a copy of the high resolution photos on 2 discs. I thanked him and headed out for South County Mall to do a bit of shopping.
